Representatives from Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) and Great Western Railway (GWR) met at Dorking West station on Wednesday 16 September to discuss GWR’s vision for future improvements at the site. The proposals set out include remodelling the station forecourt, providing improved benches, waiting shelters and customer information screens, building new canopies over the station subways and enhancing the quality of cycle parking at the station.

In 2026, MVDC introduced its Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), drawing contributions from developers building new homes and retail premises in the district. The majority of this money is assigned to Strategic CIL (SCIL), which funds sustainable, infrastructure projects that support MVDC’s Local Plan-led growth. This investment in Dorking West Railway Station will provide enhanced customer facilities to encourage new and existing passengers to use sustainable public transport to access work, education and leisure opportunities.
GWR’s Regional Development Manager, Zach Bailey, said:
“We are looking forward to starting the design work on station improvements at Dorking West this Autumn. This investment will significantly improve customer facilities, making Dorking West an attractive option for both commuting and leisure travel. We will keep local residents updated as the designs progress and expect construction activity to start on site in late 2027.”
MVDC’s Cabinet Member for Planning & Infrastructure, Councillor Bradley Nelson, said:
“Dorking West Station will be getting a much-needed transformation next year and the site visit was a great opportunity to see how one of MVDC’s first SCIL projects will improve community infrastructure. Residents’ number one concern with development is infrastructure to support it; this is why I will remain focused on delivering projects such as this. It’s great to work with-minded organisations, making Mole Valley a better place to live”.
