Today, the monumental station building of Vught has been moved 13.6 meters to the east. The station building weighs about 700,000 kg. 27 so-called lifting jacks were used to lift and then move the building. The relocation creates space to deepen the track as part ofof work completedthat ProRail is currently carrying out around Vught. The special operation is an important milestone in the work that ProRail is carrying out on the railway in Vught. The monumental station building from 1868, including the cellars, will be preserved and will eventually be given a central place in the new station area after more than 150 years.

Special operation
The preparation of the relocation was carefully carried out by the company Bresser, a specialist in the horizontal and vertical relocation of monumental buildings, homes and heavy objects. The building was dug freely and lifted 80 centimetres, after which the monumental floor was temporarily removed and dug under the foundation. Underneath the building, eight so-called roller conveyors have been placed that move the station building to its new locationrequirements.

Last of its kind
The station building was built in 1868 as a stop on the railway line between Utrecht and Boxtel. Engineer G. van Diesen gave the standard design a wider implementation, fitting in with the prosperous village and the many visitors that were expected especially in the summer. The elongated, symmetrical shape, the upper middle section and the two lower side wings are still recognizable. The building has been a national monument since 1976. It is also the last ovenremained an example of this type of station building in the Netherlands.

Station Manager Jamal Aamri;“Today is a special moment for Vught station and its inhabitants. I am extremely happy and proud that we have succeeded in moving this monumental station building and putting it in its new place. In a few years, travelers will be able to use this beautiful station again, where history and the future come together. It is an impressive achievement by the alliance and all parties involved, including Bresser. My big thanks go toto everyone who has committed themselves to this and made this special relocation possible.”

Space for deepened track
The work is part of the High Frequency Rail Transport (PHS) Programme. ProRail is partially deepening the track in Vught. This contributes to the quality of life and safety on and around the railway and makes it possible for more trains to run between Geldermalsen and Boxtel in the future. During the work, the trains will continue to run on a temporary track. Travellers use the temporary station on the company terraceein Bestevaer. It is expected that the deepened track can be put into use in 2030.

Track Displacement
Travellers, local residents and other interested parties could follow the journey on location or via a livestream. Viewing on location is limited from the parking lot at the station building. There is a grandstand and pitches have been set up along the construction fences.
