SWEDEN: Västra Götaland regional transport authority Västtrafik has exercised an €350m option for Alstom to supply a further 35 Avelia Stream Nordic X80 electric multiple-units.
This takes the total number ordered under the existing framework contract to 80 units, the first of which entered service this year.
‘With these 35 new trains, we are taking another step towards more modern, spacious and comfortable public transport for our passengers’, said Bijan Zainali, Chair of the Västtrafik Board, on September 29. ‘The trains will also reduce our energy consumption and replace our older rolling stock.’
The three-car 200 km/h EMUs have 270 seats and real-time information systems. There are dedicated spaces for wheelchair users and pushchairs, which offer step-free boarding.
The EMUs are designed for operation in harsh Nordic environmental conditions, with the ability to run through 800 mm of snow and at temperatures down to -40°C.
Alstom is also responsible for maintenance of the Västtrafik fleet, including both the new trains and older generations of rolling stock.
