The safety of our colleagues always comes first. NS is working hard on that.
The union has let politicians know that they are worried by means of a fire letter. NS shares the concerns of employees, trade unions and politicians about the safety of our colleagues. Every incident is one too many; everyone must always be able to work safely.
NS has recently introduced several new measures to improve safety. This year, for example, our chief conductors will all receive a body cam and a pilot has been started for a baton for our Safety & Services employees. In addition, we are fully committed to recruiting new colleagues for Safety & Service. This is done, among other things, with targeted recruitment campaigns.
Yesterday it was announced that as of 1 October, extraordinary investigating officers (Boas) will be allowed to inspect the driving licence register in public transport. This means that Safety & Services colleagues at NS can more easily independently determine the identity of those causing the nuisance.
This is an important step. Because during the waiting period between a standing posture and the arrival of the police, the chance of aggression and escalation increases. With the independent determination of identity, the waiting time is reduced and the chance of aggression is reduced. NS is therefore pleased that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management has made this possible.
This step is not enough. Not all nuisance providers are listed in the driving licence register. Therefore, access to the Criminal Justice Chain Database (SKDB) and the Aliens Register is also required. This has been a wish of NS for a number of years. In the coalition agreement, the government has said that it wants to work on this. This is currently being explored and elaborated by the Ministry of Justice and Security. NS wants this to be arranged as quickly as possibleorder.
