PORTUGAL: National operator CP has prequalified Alstom and Talgo for a contract to supply 12 high speed trains.

The delivery of the first trainset is expected in Q1 2031, ahead of the opening of the from Porto – Oiã first section of the Porto – Lisboa high speed line.

There will be an option for eight additional trainsets which could take the total value to €850m.

The 1 668 mm broad gauge trainsets are required to have an operating speed of 300 km/h and more than 500 seats, with facilities for passengers with reduced mobility, bicycles, wi-fi, USB-C sockets and CCTV.

‘This procurement is an important step towards CP’s participation in the high speed market’, said the operator’s Chairman Pedro Moreira on September 22.
